ok im not that into marcus miller myself, but to dismiss it as not bad and nothing special and just basic scales is being dismissive of some much more of music, yea basic scales, well play any 12 notes in western music and ill say, nothing special, just playing a basic chromatic scale… i mean seriously, like i say, im not a marcus fanatic but the finesse and the control… it IS something special… and im not like trying to start a flame war and be like oh you’re stupid but I just am kinda shocked at how pompous your post sounds… are you special enough to produce lots of famous records and to play bass with Miles Davis because I’m pretty sure my man Marcus was special enough to play with Mr. Davis
ok so instead of “is being dismissive of some much more of music” it should say “is being dismissive of so much more music” (like as in so many other styles)… I guess my grammar/typing got a little ahead of my thoughts, again, no insult intended, just want to give credit where credit is due, Marcus is a pretty special dude
My post wasn’t intended to sound pompous. I was simply expressing my opinion that i just didn’t rate it. I’ve seen and worked with lots of outstanding bass players, and he just doesn’t stand out for me. sorry.
I’m no bass expert, but to the untrained ear I think this guy was able to play some good music. To me, the first thing I look for in deciding if something is pleasant sounding is whether or not the song is catchy. Even thought the bass guitar has a somewhat more monotone sound, I find it exceptional whenever someone can put together a catchy tune using just what they have available. This guy managed to string together enough to keep me interested for 4 minutes, which you can’t really ask for much more…
That fifth beer is usually my problem…LOL I can save the world! Seriously though, If I can’t say something good then I do not post a comment. I think your comments are in line Rob.
wow, this was awesome. This guy is 10 times better than the street bass player who was uploaded a few weeks back. Incredible…
Sounds funky to me, in a good way
Not bad. Nothing special though, just playing basic scales in E.
