Wow, I heard about this instrument only in that video you posted last week, but it has such a great sound, I’m really impressed. I wonder how hard it is to play? Anyone know?
It looks quite easy to play in theory, the top few stings are just like a normal bass guitar and the rest would appear to be in open tuning. The right hand is just hammering on each string to make the sound and the left hand is used like you would on a normal guitar.
That said, its probably the same as any instrument in that it just takes lots of practice to be able to play it properly.
It looks like he is basically tapping on the strings with both his right and left hand, just one half makes more of a bass like sound and the other makes more of a guitar sound. I’m a total musical idiot though, but that’s just my observation.
Pretty cool regardless. I bet your right in that it doesn’t take much to make noise, but probably a lot of practice to make good sounding noise
I would say that this instrument aint anything less then the awsome “Stick” (chappman stick i think it’s real name is) There is another clip here with it.. sweet instrument.
A musician plays an unknown (to me anyway) mellow harmonic groove on an instrument known as The Stick or the Chapman Stick. This particular version of The Stick is the 10 string graphite variety.
