Really impressive even with the few pitchy notes included - I sure couldn’t have done it better! It says the group is an octet, but I count seven men. Where is number 8?

Eh, it was alright. If it had been a junior high or a high school I’d be more forgiving but for college kids it was only decent. Great showmanship though… but showmanship doesn’t make up for off notes. Of course I also don’t know how many times they’ve performed this, like if this was the last night of a four night performance then they did well. I guess… 7/10 to an 8/10 depending on the circumstances. Also they did the epic guitar rift rather poorly which is a must in this song… at least I think so.
The reason some of yall think there are “pitchy” spots or “off key” parts is because there is something no one has realized.
The song was written in Tenor and Bass arrangement, either as TB or TTBB. Which by that, it means that the notes that are normally heard in the Freddie Mercury version are altered to fit the vocal ranges of those guys.
And one of the solos, where the guy is doing the rocker part, sounds out of key because he has too much of a theatrical style voice than a rocker voice.
But overall, they were pretty freaking sweet. ?
Toodles.
These guys are my favorites! Just to make some things clear, these guys are from UC Berkeley. This group is always called Octet (it was formed in 1948) no matter how many members there are. In this case, one of the members left the group to focus on his academic studies, though they do still ROCK!
Also, this group is an extra-curricular group, so they do this in their ‘free time’ as well as doing weekly concerts on the Sproul and performing at other engagements including competing in the ICCA.
that was awesome. i wonder who this is? a school maybe?
You should check out the Archbishop Curley High School Choir. When I was going through Maryland I happened to see them. Easily Maryland’s best.
The description actually says it’s a group called the UC Octet from the University of California. They are definitely awesome!
University of California! Go Fightin’ Banana Slug-Aggie-Bear-Bobcat-Gaucho-Bruin-Anteater-Triton-Gators!
rofl, that made me laugh so hard. I’m an anteater. I think this group has to be from Berkeley, our A Capella groups aren’t like this at all.
Great, really great!
Verry nice
You guys do realize there are something like 9 UCs, right?
chuck
Love it a capella but it will always be better when Wayne and Garth are singing along in the car.
doesn’t octet usually imply eight people?
No, octet always implies 8 people.
Actually, octet is defined as eight people. No implication at all.
VERY COOL!! Love the solo! I’m an a capella/harmony freak, so anything acapella that sounds good rings my rooters! LOL
Sweet this one rocks! Good find!
The Octet is an a capella group at UC Berkeley.
Simply amazing.
you lot are easily impressed. there were alot of off key notes
you should try coming down off that high horse sometime…If you think you can do better, put up your own video here??

your just jealous of how awesome they sound
you realize that they write their music themselves, right?

Amazing !! This has got to be the best live vocal performance of this song that I ever heard !
Most groups could never pull that off !

the eighth member had to catch up with his academics
Pure amazingness.
Damn, I am speechless on that. ABsolutely incredible…
I don’t understand why the audience keeps laughing…is it supposed to be funny…??
